Nintendo released a new Wii menu update yesterday.
Version 3.2 “does not affect any prominently-used features or menus; however it does provide some behind the scenes updates that will improve system performance.”
Nintendo’s message reads “Once installed, if a Game Disc is inserted into the Wii console and an update is required, a notification message will be displayed across the Disc Channel alerting you to update your system. If no update is needed, the title of the Game Disc inserted will be displayed.”
Essentially then the update added a minor feature to the Disc Channel. If you load a game disc that requires a system update, a notification will stream across the Disc Channel much like Virtual Console games stream across the Wii Shop Channel. If no update is required, the game disc title will simply be displayed.
