yes, it works, the new 2.2 firmware update on the 1st generation iPod Touch now allows it to accept dock-based microphones. but the 1st generation iPod Touch won't be able to use the new earbud-mic combo released by Apple though. just dock-based microphones like this Macally iVoicePro.
