Amazon Kindle, Books & Amazon (thekindle.wordpress.com) has great Amazon Kindle news, photos, videos and more
There are only 18 magazines available on the Kindle. Nearly every magazine offers a ‘buy current version’ option - a great way to check out the magazine’s kindle edition without committing to a subscription. Lets take a look at Kindle edition magazines - Newsweek - #1 spot, $1.49 monthly pri...
I’ll add more to this article in time. However, the Kindle is a new emerging market - get in here before it’s overcrowded. Right now, there is a huge opportunity to establish your brand and name. Soon, everyone will know about this, and users will be swamped in the deluge of people trying to gi...
Sites that work on the Kindle browser (for the most part) are hard to come by. So here’s a giant list of sites you can access from your Kindle - it’s experimental and based off of sites that work for Phones. If a site doesn’t work for you, please do write in so I can update the list.
In summation - buying a Kindle Reader also means access to Free Kindle Book offers, some of which are exclusively on the Kindle, and some which aren’t (though they do read better on the Kindle than a PC or iPhone). At the Kindle Blog we specifically have a section for Free Kindle Book giveaw...
A long time ago I’d written a Kindle 2.0 and Kindle 3.0 wish list. After all the recent news, and especially after seeing the Sony PRS-700 and PlasticLogic eReaders my wishlist for the Kindle Reader V2 is a little different. In fact I have two lists. Kindle 2.0 Most Wanted List Kindle 2.0 Wish List
I’ve never really seen any Kindle video in its entirety - that’s rather stunning since I’ve finished almost every Kindle article I’ve ever read. I think this has something to do with how I watch TV and the shorter attention span associated with TV and Internet video viewing.
I think that 2. is explained by the fact that Kindle books are half the price, buying Kindle books is straightforward and impulse driven, and that owning the Kindle makes a purchase from Amazon much more likely. Kindle Owner Profile
Amazon should announce a release date, allow pre-orders, and drop the price of the existing Kindle by $75 to $100. Doing this at least a month before the new Kindle releases would really help customers. It doesn’t really serve Amazon’s interests to have a bunch of Kindle owners feel they mis...
Also, EOS have a free ebook - Emissaries from the Dead - available in Microsoft, Adobe, and MobiPocket formats (choose MobiPocket for Kindle). Free ebook coupon code: EOS6, they do subscribe you to 2 mailing lists. Adam-Troy Castro’s short stories have been nominated for the Hugo, Neb...
Amazon shows a 2-3 week delay in shipping. If you don’t mind waiting, you still have till end of Nov 1st to use kindle coupon: OPRAHWINFREY and get $50 off the Kindle. I’m going to buy one nevertheless (Edit: Just did - hadn’t factored in taxes - i’ll probably buy Kindle 2 too, when it come...
If you can’t wait for your Kindle fix till 2009, buy the Kindle Now. Remember to use the valid till Nov 1st Oprah Kindle code: OPRAHWINFREY for $50 off the Kindle. I personally would call up Amazon and make sure Kindle 2 doesn’t come out till end Feb 2009.
Also, an endorsement for the Kindle makes the gap between the Kindle and the Sony even bigger. It really is Oprah + free wireless + Amazon’s store versus Sony’s new device. Increase in the Number of Kindle Owners and spread of the Kindle Gospel
Bezos gave voice to that spirit while talking up the Kindle … “One of our competitive advantages at Amazon is that we are willing to plant seeds — if we think the seed is important — and nurture it for a long time,” Bezos said. Another Kindle related snippet from the call (this is Mr. Bezos respo...
The more options and more of an internet like experience Amazon provides the more it loses the customer’s focus. Perhaps in this case Path of least resistance includes tuning out distractions, and keeping the Kindle’s feature set narrow by conscious choice.
Moving on to two acquisitions that I didn’t know about till now - Fabric.com - The Place to go when you sew. I don’t know enough about this and don’t fully understand the strategic benefit to Amazon from this acquisition (June 9th, 2008).Also in June 2008, Amazon took an equity stake in user gen...
One of the under-appreciated aspects of the Kindle is how it has the potential to open up not just a whole new world of interesting new content for readers, but a whole new world of readers for small publishers. As a small publisher, we have been thrilled with how effective and easy Amazon’...
In Seattle, meanwhile, Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos says that after years of failed experimentation, third-party vendors — the foundation on which eBay was built — now account for about 29 percent of sales on Amazon. The company has endured and outlasted critics who long complaine...

The truth is that the Kindle needs a lot of favourable factors to be able to experience exponential growth and become anything resembling the iPod of books. The current economic environment means that isn’t going to happen - Mr. Bezos and Amazon’s committment to the Kindle will be put to the...
Enter Kindle. The new book reader from Amazon will probably change all this, once it reaches critical mass, once there are many millions of Kindles out there. First, writers can–at the moment–present their books online through Amazon without paying a fee. The uploading process itself is r...

Th Edit: I found that Joe Wikert beat me to this with a very good article on Plastic Logic and how the focus should be on content. I’m going to add in a bunch of information that he doesn’t cover while agreeing with his explicit premise that content available on the device is king and his [...]
Here are the main figures I came up with - In the best case, the Amazon Kindle is on track to sell 570,000 Kindles by end of 2008. This includes the assumption that Kindle V2.0 is released before Christmas Season. I really think Amazon’s public denial of a new Kindle version is to sustain sales of...
Basically, I feel that a social network focused around Kindle owners presents four very strong value propositions Its a direct value-add to every Kindle Owner as they get a community along with their Kindle (and it’s free). For prospective Kindle Owners it presents unbiased honest...
One of two changes is going to happen - Either, The Kindle is simply going to cut the textbook market down in size by offering cheaper textbooks; Or, and this is the scenario that truly fascinates meA combination of Professors and Students are going to use the Kindle (and/or other platform...
I’m going to dissect a typical anti-Kindle article - in this case one from Conde Nast’s Portfolio.com (which obviously adheres to a higher journalistic standard than the typical ‘it’s got DRM and it’s not designed by apple’ anti-kindle review by someone who’s never touched a kindle).
I ended up saving the Guide as HTML, then hand-editing the HTML to be very simple. The Amazon site supports very basic HTML–essentially HTML 1.0–which required quite a bit of fiddling. If I had it to do over, I’d write it in HTML, then open the HTML file in NeoOffice and tweak the NeoOffice file.
There might be a few categories i’m missing here and will add these as more come up. If you fall into one of the above three categories, you can rest assured that like the overwhelming majority of Kindle owners you will love it - Go Ahead and Buy the Kindle at Amazon. Conclusion
Really interesting post on the Eeeph Forum (courtesy member vicicasas) showing the Asus Eee PC being used as an ebook reader a la Amazon’s Kindle. That got me started. In “Amazon Kindle” mode. FBReader running fullscreen and rotated, with the Next Page key assigned to both the spacebar and t...
BTW, I really think there should be some sort of round-up of most requested features and ideas for V2 of the Kindle. And then we should get that over to Amazon - I’m sure if they know that a bunch of Kindle forums and Blogs have gotten together to gather this information from actual Kindle affic...
